Gavin is a hospitality and brand enthusiast. He is currently the Director Of Business Development & Marketing Tamarind Management Ltd. Prior to this, he was the General Manager of Kuku Foods Kenya is the Franchisee for Kentucky Fried Chicken© (KFC©), responsible for the development of the KFC franchise in Kenya as well as ensuring the local supply chain is developed to Yum Brands audit standards; including operations, administration and business development of KFC.

Previously he served as the Chief Executive Officer of African Franchise Partners consultancy, involved in the development of franchising in Kenya as the BDS provider for the Kenya Franchise Association, establishing franchise systems for National brands and promotion of the franchise industry through media campaigns, training, seminars, surveys and studies. He was also the Managing Director and co-founding proprietor of Kengele’s Management Group (KMG) – a fast-growing franchise chain of restaurants and enterprises including Kengele’s Bar & Restaurants© and Kula Korner© restaurant brands; a merchandising division; a hospitality consulting division; ‘Gateway to Hospitality’© internship & training division; and KMG contract and industrial catering divisions. His past working experience includes senior management positions in the hospitality industry with Windsor Hotels / Conservation Corporation Africa.

He has also served as Duty Manager, Sheraton Park Towers Hotel, London. He has lectured at Strathmore Business School, the UNDP YES-MSE Program on Entrepreneurship and Franchising; as well as at Kenya Utalii College on Strategic Management (specialising in franchising and competitive analysis in the hospitality industry. Gavin’s industry involvement is extensive having been Director of Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers & Caterers (KAHC); Founding-Chairman of Restaurant Division of KAHC; Founding-Chairman of Kenya Franchise Association; Committee member of Kenya Chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs; Board member of NightGuard, Uganda – a Malaria-eradication program through franchised IRS centres; member of Kenya Wine & Food Society and member of Kenya Private Sector Foundation, Resource person for the Joint Africa Institute (AfDB/ IMF/ World Bank) on Franchising in Africa; and Franchise Brand development. He is a regular contributor to Business Daily – a business newspaper in Kenya, and several hospitality journals, as well as a regular media consultant on franchising, entrepreneurship and hospitality issues.
