Lawrence Mafuru is a Founder and Managing Partner of Bankable Tanzania Limited, a corporate finance advisory and banking and financial markets consulting firm based in Dar es Salaam. He also sits in the Board of Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) Tanzania since 2016.
Prior to founding Bankable Tanzania Limited, Lawrence worked at the President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB) in the President’s Office as Director of Resource Mobilisation and Economic Sectors in 2012-2014. In 2015, Lawrence was appointed as Treasury Registrar at the Ministry of Finance responsible for overseeing and managing performance of public and statutory corporations and state owned investments in private companies up 2017.
Lawrence who has a MBA (Finance) from the University of Dar Es Salaam Business School is a seasoned Certified Chartered Banker from the Chartered Institute of Bankers London and a Certified Financial Markets Dealer by ACI Financial Markets. He started his career at Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania in 1998 in the area of International Trade Finance and moved into various areas such Corporate Banking focusing on Corporate Transactional Services, Global Markets/Treasury (Financial Markets) as Corporate Relationship Manager/Dealer with key responsibilities being global treasury products sales and client financial risk management solutions and rose to the level of Head of Sales – Financial Markets in 2005. Lawrence prides himself of being the first Financial Markets Dealer to structure and trade the first ever TZS denominated currency option in Tanzania making the Tanzanian Shilling the 3rd African currency in 2005 to be traded in global options.
In 2007, Lawrence moved on from Standard Chartered Bank to take up the role of Country Treasurer for National Bank of Commerce (ABSA/Barclays Group Subsidiary) the position he held until June 2010 when he was appointed to be the Managing Director and CEO National Bank of Commerce.
Lawrence is married to Noela and they are blessed with two daughters Lorraine and Lorna.
