As an independent Consultant, Rita has specialized in the field of gender, advocacy and project management. With over 20 years experience in both the corporate and non-governmental organization sectors, Rita has been able to lead in various capacities ranging from Managerial positions in Gender and Advocacy, to being a National Director in a child-focused organization, SOS Children’s Villages (2010 – 2013), with a work force of about 262 staff in various locations. Her main focus has been on the well-being of children, and throughout her career, she established linkages with various organizations such as the Kiwanis Club in South Africa, an organization supporting street children, as well as taking up various voluntary roles in community-led initiatives that included supporting the Family Hope Children, a local NGO started by street children based in Dar Es Salaam.
Rita has lead various campaigns that included a charity walk that raised awareness and funds for orphans and vulnerable children, and contributed to local initiatives such as ‘Women Scream’ and other events that commemorated International Women’s day. She has had the privilege of facilitating international events such as the Africa-Canada Emerging leaders’ dialogue, an initiative spearheaded by HRH Prince Phillip of England, and has been invited as a guest speaker at international venues focusing on the rights of men, women, boys and girls.
She has also been able to mentor staff as well as management within the various capacities that she has held, and her efforts were rewarded when she received the prestigious ‘Public-Service-Partner-of-the-year’ award, presented to her by the Chief Executive Officers Roundtable (CEOrt) members
