Mrs. Stella Kilonzo as the Division Chief for the Financial Markets Division at the African Development Bank leads capital markets development throughout Africa. AfDB’s Financial Markets Division intervenes through Equity investments, Transactions partial guarantees, Advisory services, and Budget support loans and technical assistance on policy, regulatory reforms & capacity building. The Division also houses the African Financial Markets Initiative (AFMI) to encourage the deepening of domestic bond markets.
She served as Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Authority in Kenya from 2008-2012, where she led the capital markets development beyond plain vanilla capital markets products as well as a successful reform agenda to transform the Kenyan capital markets. She founded Astute Capital Limited, a strategic advisory firm specializing in corporate finance in 2012-13. Previously, she worked in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, USA and PricewaterhouseCoopers Kenya. She has served as Board Director in several institutions notably as Chairman, East African Securities Regulatory Authorities 2008-10 and World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Global Financial Systems, and Banking and Capital Markets. Mrs. Kilonzo has a First Class Honors Bachelors of Commerce Degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, an MBA in Corporate Finance form the Loyola University, Chicago, and is Certified Public Accountant (CPA), USA.
